Anyone who boats and fish around Biscayne Bay knows Stiltsville.   The Stiltsville houses clearly mark the Biscayne Channel that connects Biscayne Bay with the Ocean.  They can be seen from a great distance showing boaters the way to enter or exit the bay before they can see any markers.  The Stiltsville houses have also been shelter during storms.  In South Florida it can be the most beautiful day one minute and the next minute a huge storm is bearing down from nowhere.  Many boater who can't beat the storms seek shelter under the houses.
