The hurricane of 1950 not only damaged the Quarterdeck Club but swept away Crawfish Eddie's shack. Nevertheless, Stiltsville continued to grow ending the decade with 27 houses. One of those houses built in the '50's was the 'A' Frame house. Hurricane Donna in 1960 roared through the area taking down 20 houses of which 8 were rebuilt.

A frequent visitor during the 1950's was Governor LeRoy Collins, who visited Jimmy Ellenburg at his barge in the flats. Jimmy brought a barge out in the flats near Crawfish Eddie in 1939 and was known as the unofficial mayor of the area.

Governor Collins prepared a scrapbook as a gift for Jimmy. The front cover was a 1947 mariner's chart with a picture of Jimmy's barge, powerboat and the lighthouse. The cover reads, "To Jimmy in appreciation of real Florida living, LeRoy Collins, Governor, March 1959." Inside on the first page are photographs of their times at the barge. Handwritten on the page is the following sentiment:

"Jimmy Ellenburg,
When the time comes when I say so long to this life I hope the great beyond seems alot like your cabin in the sea-
Roy Collins"
