Miami, Florida 33130
Dear Chairman Abrell,
I am writing to you in regards to Stiltsville, located in
Dade County. I understand that this historic district was denied listing status on the
National Register of Historic Places, and that currently, Dade County citizens are in the
process of appeal for this matter. While this is indeed an important avenue to take in
ensuring the safety of the district, I would like to ask that the Miami Dade County
Preservation Division expedite a resolution regarding the local designation of this piece
of history.
While the request to include this important community as
a national historic district on the National Register of Historic Places was denied, its
importance has in no way been diminished to the City of Miami and Dade County. There are
many important historic districts and sites that are located throughout the state of
Florida that are extremely important to a community's development. Many are not listed on
the National Register, however, almost all are locally designated. The fight to save our
historic, cultural, and natural resources must begin at home. Saving the historic
community of Stilsville begins with the City of Miami and Dade County.
Protecting our past is very important to deciding the
course for our future. I hope that you will give your favorable consideration of this
matter. I will be happy to speak with you further regarding this issue.
Sincerely,
(Signature)
